Profile

Dr. K. Rama Patnaik is the Librarian at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) in Bengaluru. She holds a Doctoral Degree in Library and Information Science from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, India, where she earned her master's and bachelor's degrees in the same field. Her thesis, titled "Marketing of Library and Information Services in Indian Libraries: Present Trends and Future Perspectives," was adjudicated as an excellent thesis by the School of Information Science at Michigan University in 2002. Additionally, she has a master's degree in Sociology and Politics and was awarded gold medals in her master's and bachelor's programs in Library and Information

Science. Her recent academic additions include the Executive General Management Program of IIM BANGALORE in 2022.


Dr. Patnaik has been with IIMB for over 16 years and contributed to the digital transformation of its collections and services. Before this, she worked at two prominent National Law school libraries. In 2012, she received the Emerald LIS Research Fund Award for the best research proposal among South Asian librarians. She has authored three books and published fifteen papers in reputable journals. She also contributes as a course writer for INFLIBNET ePpathshala, University of Hyderabad, and B R Ambedkar Open University programs on Library and Information Science.


In 2020, she developed the union catalog for all IIM libraries. She played a key role in designing the interior layout of the IIMB library to enhance learning spaces and integrate user preferences.


Dr. Patnaik served as a consultant and reviewer for an online course on plagiarism (Indian edition) published by Epegum in association with Oxford University Press in 2018-2019.


In 2024, she was selected to participate in the International Library Leadership Program organized by the British Library in London and sponsored by British Library India. Her professional interests include integrating technology into information services, managing electronic resources, addressing copyright challenges in the digital era, creating subject profiles with instructional design using LibGuides, and utilizing library resources for various genres of research. She has also developed a web tutorial using LibGuides (cognitive load theory) on using copyrighted and licensed digital content for IIMB faculty and students and library and information literacies for graduate students.
